Poulner Infant School Curriculum

We are proud to work as a team to provide a happy, safe, stimulating and creative environment in which to learn and grow.  Central to our ethos is our commitment to value and nurture each child as an individual to enable them to achieve their best and develop an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.

We pride ourselves on ensuring we provide a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects our school’s vision and Values and is rich in experiences and opportunities for children to extend their skills of enquiry. We also try to use our local surroundings to support our learning. We follow the programmes of study in the National Curriculum 2014.

We try, where possible, to link up learning through overarching themes or topics. This helps to give learning a context and a purpose. We also recognise the importance of learning outside the classroom.

Our Poulner Journey

We deliver a programme of enrichment and experiences that all children receive as part of their Poulner Journey.  Our extensive grounds include a huge field for sport and play, forest space and vegetable patch for outdoor learning. We have an attractive main playground with a gym trail and play equipment to enhance imaginative play.  Teachers plan active “hands-on” learning opportunities that challenge thinking.  Work is planned to meet the needs of every child and our aim is for pupils to become confident, motivated and enthusiastic learners for life.  Visitors are welcomed into school and nursery to talk to our children about their expertise in an area of learning and educational trips are organised to further develop and reinforce their experience of a topic.

Inclusion is important to us, children with identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) access additional provision and support to help them achieve specific targets to help them progress.  These targets are carefully monitored and parents and carers are updated as part of our commitment to working together to support learning.
